Esther (Gaydos) Emery, 84, of Kittanning, left us to go to the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, in her residence.

She was born April 13, 1933, in Clune, Pa., to Frank and Irene Gaydos, and was a graduate of Elders Ridge High School.

Esther was employed as Circulation Manager at the Leader Times, from which she retired.

Esther was an avid gardener, and loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, which flourished each year. For years, she worked for the Armstrong County elections office at the Hose Co. No. 4 polling location. She was active in the Hose Co. No. 6 Ladies Auxiliary for years, while her husband, Don, served as a member of the organization.

Esther touched the lives of many young ladies in the area by serving as a Girl Scouts leader and organized trips and outings. Esther liked to read, and became an avid reader of mysteries. She was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Kittanning.

Esther was the matriarch of the Emery family, and enjoyed spending time with her children and talking with them on the phone. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Esther was married for 58 years to Don Emery of Kittanning, who passed away Dec. 13, 2014. She is survived by her five children and their families; Jackie of Pennsylvania, Joyce of Georgia, Don of Florida, Jon of South Carolina, and Mark of Virginia: seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, who loved her gardens, and one great-grandson on the way. She is also survived by two brothers: Frank Gaydos of Vandergrift, and Don Gaydos of Indiana, Pa.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Parting prayers will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with the Rev. Douglas E. Dorula officiating. Burial will follow in Kittanning Cemetery
