Frederick L. Johns, 88, of Kittanning died on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, in VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
He was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Manorville to the late Waldo and Eleanor (Mc- Camy) Johns.
Fred retired from Eljer after 44 ½ years. While at Eljer he was a laborer, foreman, and then finished his career there as a trouble shooter. He also was part owner of Armstrong Local Connect.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Kittanning, where he was a past deacon and trustee.
Fred was also a Free Mason and was active in many Masonic Organizations: Kittanning East Brady Lodge 244 F&AM (he was Worshipful Master 1980), Coudersport Consistory ( he received recognition by being awarded the 33rd Degree and MSA), Syria Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and York Rite Bodies (chapter, Council and Commandery).
Mr. Johns served as secretary of Armstrong County
Conservation League for 30 plus years and he was a founding member of the Rock Hound Club.
He enjoyed oil painting, leather work, photography, lapidary work, camping, hunting, and fishing.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 67 years, Vivian J. (Hanold) Johns; daughter, Bonnie (Ronald) McClanahan of Greencastle, Pa.; son, Martin (Oksun) Johns of Kittanning; daughter, Janine Johns and companion, Mike Wetzell, of Kittanning; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Bill Rush of Kittanning; and daughter-in-law, Karen (Johns) Martin of Naples, Fla.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by daughter, Patty Rush; son, Leslie Johns; granddaughter, Carrie Schrecengost; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, in Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning, where there will also be a Masonic Service at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday. Additional visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Lloyd Riggle officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
