Joan L. (Walter) Gray, 75, of East Franklin, passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was born Aug. 13, 1940, to the late William H. Walter Sr. and Nellie Madge (Toy) Walter, in Cowansville. She was married Jan. 18, 1963, to Paul E. Gray. They spent 47 years together before his death on March 25, 2010. They lived in Erie for 30 years before retiring back home in Kittanning to be near to family. Joan enjoyed camping, reading and crafts of all types especially ceramics, where she ran a small business and taught classes for many years. She made friends with everyone she met. She was a member of the Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church, where she grew up and was active since her youth as BYF member and Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her mother, Madge Walter, of East Franklin; two sons, Scott Gray (Jodi), of Erie, and Brian Gray (Kim Rowe), of Erie; one daughter, Lisa Pongratz, of East Franklin; one granddaughter, Melayna Pongratz; three grandsons, Jensen Gray, Cody Martinez and Jace Wolz; and sisters, Nel Walter, Sandy Brumbaugh (Butch), and Linda Hooks (Blair); brothers-in-law, Bill Gray (Connie) and Les Gray (Sue); and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gray; her father, William H. Walter Sr.; brother, William H. Walter Jr.; father-in-law, Thomas W. Gray Sr.; mother-in-law, Daisy Gray-Schaeffer; and stepfather-in-law, Jess Schaeffer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME in Cowansville and from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon Thursday at the Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Lane officiating. Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
