Margaret E. “Betty” McCafferty, 95, of Kittanning, entered the Pearly Gates to be with her husband and son on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017. She completed the “Circle of Life” just two days shy of her 96th birthday. She lived a wonderful healthy life and loved being the “C-O-A” (Center of Attention) at any party or gathering. She was born Aug. 3, 1921, in West Monterey (Clarion County) to John Walker Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Mourer) Buzard. Prior to retirement, Betty worked for Kamp’s and Mateer’s Shoe Stores, both in Kittaning. She was a fashionista of her time and could continuously shop while others dropped! Betty enjoyed having her nails and hair done up to the last week of her life. She took pride in her appearance and expressed her opinion whether you wanted it or not. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles T. “Ted” McCafferty on Sept. 15, 1941. Betty and Ted traveled/ lived in the South prior to Ted leaving for Germany during World War II. You may remember that the McCafferty family owned and operated McCafferty’s Rocket Market on Chestnut Street in Kittanning. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, (Oct. 17, 2005) and son, Richard C. McCafferty, ( Sept. 27, 2011); brothers, John W. “Jack” Buzard, Jr., David L. Buzard, and Richard L. Buzard; sisters, Geraldine Rose, Mildred Buzard, and Dorothy “Jean” Curren; and special nieces, NoNo and Joni. Survivors include: daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Forringer; grandson, Bradley (Angela); granddaughter, Dr. Brooke; daughter-in-law, Peggy McCafferty; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces (including Kim Curren-Vorpe and Milly Tarr) and nephews. At her request, no visitation will be held. Interment will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, Inc., Kittanning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kittanning Public Library, 280 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, Pa. 16201; or Family Matters Relay for Life Team, c/o Sharon Wolfe, 331 Harrison St., Kittanning, Pa. 16201. Better yet, beyond financial donations, perform a loving act of kindness (make someone laugh, send a card, give a hug) in her memory. In addition, the family wishes to extend their gratitude to Rivercliff Terrace for their support and kindness during Betty Boop’s stay.
