Raymond M. French Sr.

September 25, 1948 ~ November 30, 2017 (age 69) 69 Years Old


On Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, an amazing, caring man and “old goat”, Raymond M. French, Sr., 69, of Rural Valley, departed this earth or “kicked the bucket” with his loving family by his side at ACMH Hospital.  He was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Kittanning, the son of Clinton and Melissa “Ellen” (Hooks) French.  Ray loved his family, hunting, and fishing. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.  Ray was a coal miner with the Helen Mining Co. in Homer City, Pa. until their closing in 1993.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Jan (Davis) French; older daughter, Janice Morgan and husband, Scott, of Mesa, Ariz.; only son, Raymond French, Jr. and wife, Diana, of Kittanning; younger daughter, Ramona French and her significant other, Sean Spring, of Ford City; grandchildren, Erik Poorman II, Michael Heilman, Kevin French, Tyler McEntire, Samantha French, and Brian McEntire; great-grandchildren, Izabella, Nichole, Olivia, Calvin, and Camden; uncles who were like brothers, George and Piney Hooks; and aunts who were like sisters, Rose Wise and Clare Dodson.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce French, who died Sept. 1, 1978; parents and step-father, Marshall Vass; uncles who were like brothers, Alvin and Bob Hooks; and aunts who were like sisters, Nora Mae Rupert and Mary Hopper.  Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with an additional hour of visitation, prior to the service. Pastor Jimmy Edwards will officiate. Interment will be in Brush Valley Brethren Church Cemetery in Adrian. A special thank you to the staff of the Richard G. Laube Cancer Center and the staff of the third floor of ACMH Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Richard G. Laube Cancer Center, 100 Nolte Drive, Kittanning, Pa. 16201 with checks written to ACMH Foundation with Cancer Center Assistance Fund written in the memo portion.
