Robert E. “Sam” Flanigan Sr., 76, of Kittanning passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 after a long illness. He was born September 10, 1940, the son of Dora and Harry Sims of Worthington. Sam was a 1958 graduate of Worthington High School. He worked at Moonlight Mushroom Farm for 29 years and as a corrections officer with the Armstrong County Jail, until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family; he loved watching TV, especially old western movies, Jeopardy, and Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers games. Sam is survived by his wife of 52 years, Grace, and their four children, Bob and his wife, Jenny, of Kittanning, Erin and her husband, John, of Apollo, Steven and his wife, Kelly, of Ford City, and Doug of Kittanning; three grandsons, Mack, Mason, and Maddox Flanigan of Kittanning; two step-grandsons, Richie Hrabovsky of Ford City and John Barron of Natrona Heights; brother, Richard “Dick” Flanigan and wife, Pam, of Kittanning; sisters, Pam Sims of Worthington and Kim Sims of Kittanning; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Susan, and his precious granddaughter, Shannon Koffman. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home until the time of service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sue Foster officiating. Interment in Worthington Lutheran Cemetery.
