Shirley Arlene “Peg” (Crissman) Smith, 83, of Butler, died Sunday, November 26, 2017 at home under hospice care after a six month battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 17, 1932 in Mosgrove, Pa. to Ottie and Emma (Brink) Crissman.

She was a homemaker. She belonged to the North Main Street Church of God in Butler. Shirley was very inventive and could fix just about anything. She loved her flowers, gardening, cooking, and baking “home made bread”. She loved to make apple pies, apple cakes, and apple sauce to which she gave away with pride and love.

She enjoyed many trips to Florida and Arizona for the winter along with her sisters, brothers-in-law and friends. Camping and fishing were always much fun for her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Earl F. Smith; daughters, Sherry (Timothy) Burka, of Lyndora, Pa, and Shawnee (Michael Sr.) Fitz, of Charleston, South Carolina; granddaughter Jessica Burka and her daughter, Julia Berquist, granddaughter Amanda Burka, grandson Ryan (Kati) Colteryahn and their children, Rylee, Raislee, and River, grandson Jamie (Savannah) Colteryahn and their daughter, Hallie; sisters, Jean Hutchinson, of Kittanning, Alice Bish, of Indiana, Pa., and Nancy (Donald) Ray, of Poldan, Ohio; and many, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews who to her were all so special.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shirley; sister, Joan Proffitt; brothers, David, Clarance, Shelby, William, Charles, and James Crissman.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear Street, Worthington. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Matt Reitz and Pastor Connie Dunn officiating.

Burial will be in Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery. The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice Care for their support during Shirley’s battle.
