Warren D. “Jeep” Atherton, 78, of Templeton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 10, 1938, in Adrian to John and Mildred (Lockhart) Atherton. He was a lifelong resident of Mosgrove. Jeep graduated from Dayton High School. He was a heavy construction carpenter with Local Union 2274, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of Pine Creek Sportsman Club and served in the U.S. Army in Alaska. He was a member and deacon of Templeton Church of God. Jeep was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening, camping, square dancing, NASCAR, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. He also enjoyed the YMCA Senior Games, listening to southern gospel and bluegrass music, and doing sudoku. He especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. Survivors include son, John (Carla) Atherton of Ford City; daughter, Beth (David) Galbraith of Texas; grandsons, Cody and Christopher Atherton, Nicholas, Warner, Samuel, and Jake Galbraith; granddaughter, Shianne Russell; great-grandson, Sebastian; sister-in-law, Nancy (Raymond) Harmon; niece, Kelly (Brian) Ploski; nephew, Raymond Dale “Buster” Harmon, close friend, Janet Cloak; and several nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra (Cloak) Atherton, whom he married Aug. 1, 1964, and who died Oct. 3, 2004; infant grandson, David M. Galbraith Jr., who died in 2002; and brothers, Earl, Vernon, Kelly, Harry, Don, and Wayne Atherton. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. Saturday at the Templeton Church of God until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Grimm officiating. Burial will be at Mateer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jeep’s memory to Templeton Church of God.
