Frank Leroy Williams, Jr., 80, formerly of Worthington, died of natural causes on Wednesday, January 1st, 2020 at Meritus Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was born in Craigsville, Pa, a son of the late Frank Leroy Williams Sr. and June Claypoole Williams. He was the beloved husband of Gwennie E. Williams and beloved father of Pamela S. Williams Armstrong, Randy L. Williams, Michael E. Williams, and Jeffrey A. Williams. He graduated from Indiana State Teachers College with a Bachelor's degree and George Washington University with a Master's degree in Financial Management. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving 2 tours in the Vietnam War. He retired after 22 years of service at the rank of LtC. He was a recipient of the Bronze Award. He was retired from the Social Security Administration in 2005 after 17 years of employment as a Supervisory Systems Accountant. He was also employed in the Division of Financial Administration & Management specializing in Financial Policy & Operations, Systems Design, and Standards. Frank was a lifetime member of the Worthington American Legion. He was a longtime member of Harendale Presbyterian Church in Glen Burnie, MD where he served as a Trustee. Frank was passionate about family history and was in the process of writing a book about the genealogy of the Williams, Claypoole, and Morrison families. Frank recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. On 12/22/1959 he married Gwennie E. Morrison of Worthington, Pa.
Left behind to cherish Frank's memory includes his wife, Gwennie Williams; children, Pamela S. Armstrong, Randy L. Williams, Michael E. Williams, and Jeffrey A. Williams; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Geraldine Williams; and sister, Connie Williams Burke.
Friends will be received on Monday, January 6, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 3-7 p.m. at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home with Frank's children, The Rev. Pamela S. Armstrong and Pastor Randy Williams officiating. A graveside committal service will immediately follow at Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers. memorial contributions can be made in Frank's honor to the American Heart Foundation, National Museum of the U.S. Army, Army Historical Foundation, or the American Legion.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. at the former New Hope United Methodist Church, 114 W North Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212 with Pastor Kenneth Love officiating.
