Gwen (Shaner) Rideout, 74, of Ford City, died Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. She was born April 22, 1944, in Kittanning, to the late Fred and Ann (Sharpe) Shaner Sr. Gwen moved from the Kittanning and Ford City area to Illinois for several years, and returned to the area in 2007. She retired from the city of Joliet, where she was a parking attendee. Gwen enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she lived with her granddaughter Kaylee, (Billy) who took care of her. She also liked to go to casinos, doing puzzle books, and watching TV. She is survived by son Jamie John of Kittanning, daughter Robin (Moises) Ochoa of Chicago, daughter Kim (Jack) Kimberlin of St. Elmo, Ill., daughter Linda Folta of Johnston, son Elmer John Jr. of Kittanning, son Mike (Mercy) Rideout of Streater, Ill., daughter Julie Young of Joliet, Ill., daughter Faith (George) Rosenberger of Ford City, son Max “JR” (Tayne) Rideout of Ford City, 33 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, brothers Fred (Theresa) Shaner Jr. and Ray (Abbie) Shaner Sr. of Kittanning, brother Dud (Sherry) Shaner of Ford City, sister Peggy (Ron) McMillen of Kittanning, and brother Tom (Sonya) Shaner of Ford City. She was preceded in death by parents Fred and Ann Shaner, brother Carl Shaner, and sisters Cindy Fortunato and Susan Shaner. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning.
