Howard Raymond Toy, 85, of Worthington, died on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born on Oct. 7, 1932, in Kittanning, Pa., to the late Charles & Ella (Smith) Toy. Howard retired from Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge after 43 years of employment. He served in the U.S. Army and attended the Worthington Presbyterian Church. He was a charter member of the Worthington American Legion where he served on the board for many years. He also was a member of the Kittanning Elks. Mr. Toy loved spending time with his family and having them all over for dinner was a great joy to him. He also enjoyed sitting on the loveseat with his wife watching football, baseball and wrestling.
Howard leaves behind to cherish his memory hs wife of 65 years, M. Jean (Hooks) Toy; daughters, Sharon (Tim) Smouse of Worthington, Candy (Butch) Griffith of Worthington; grandchildren, Chad (Kelly) Griffith of Saxonburg, Nathan (Marcy) Dunn of Pottstown, Natalie (Brad) Dunn-Bereziak of Vancouver, Jason (Terra) Griffith of Worthington; great grandchildren, Taylor Baum, Nora Griffith, Ethan Dunn, Claire Griffith and Finley Griffith; brother, D. Dean (Teresa) Toy; sister, Esther (David) Miller; brothers and sisters-in-law, Liz (Merle) Rupp, Alice Cogley, Nancy Hooks; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by loving grandson, Nolan Smouse in 2013; brothers, Robert “Bob” Toy and Charles A. (Shirley) Toy; brothers-in-law, Denton Cogley and Theodore Hooks, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Theodore & Ruth Hooks.
Family and friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday Sept. 12, 2018, in the F. Duane Snyder Crissman Funeral Home in Worthington. Additional viewing will take place on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, in the Worthington Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Hindman officiating. Burial will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
