James E. Clawson, 78, of Walkchalk, who lived the last two years at Southwestern VA, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at the Southwestern Veterans' Center in Pittsburgh. He was born May 30, 1940, in Leechburg, to the late William and Frances (Wyant) Clawson. James was a lifelong resident of the area and was employed at Davidson Sand and Gravel. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1962 with the 82nd Airborne Division.
Jim was a member of the Kittanning Elks No. 203 where he was PER and PDDGER. He was also the secretary for many years. He volunteered with the Kittanning Elks Hoop Shoot, he loved to play Santa Claus for the VA’s and so many other things. He was always at the Elks. He coached midget football for the Armstrong Indians for a very long time. When he wasn’t coaching, he was helping with maintenance. He also coached wrestling at the YMCA. He played Santa Claus for the community, participating with Kittanning Light Up Night, and visited many families upon request. He would donate bicycles and anything else he could do to help children. Jim was a member of the Armstrong County Sports Hall of Fame.
Survivors include sons, Steve (Shelly) Clawson, of Kittanning, and Roger (Kathy) Clawson, of Templeton; daughter, Barb Potts and Russ Clark, of Ford City; grandchildren, Ashley (Faisal) Rahman, Ashley Potts, Jacob (Alyssa) Febinger, Janelle (Freddie) Geer, Patrick Febinger, Dylan (Kristal) Clawson, Riley Potts, and Shannon (Brian) Atherton; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Aydin, Nora, Briar, Ada, Adelynn, Liam, and Cruze. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Clawson; mother; and brother, Stanley Clawson.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home until the time of the service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Edward Walters officiating. Interment will be in the Worthington Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Southwestern Veterans Center, 7060 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15206.
