James Hopbell Obituary

James A. Hopbell, 89, of Kittanning, died Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Heritage Meadows Personal Care Home in Sunnyside.  He was born February 23, 1929 in Braddock, Pennsylvania to the late John E. and Agnes (Fate) Hopbell.  He was a powerhouse engineer at Edgar Thompson Steel Mill as well as a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.  James was a Jehovah's Witness.  He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and watching and playing sports.  Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Martha (Wethli) Hopbell, of Kittanning; daughter, Denise Walter and husband, Scott, of Kittanning; son, Bud Hopbell and wife, Angela, of Pine Bush, New York; grandson, Brad Walter and wife, Lindsay, of Kittanning; granddaughters, Lindsay Holmes and husband, Matt, of Kittanning, and Leah Mathis and husband, James, of Ford City; grandsons, Zachary, Elliot, and Braxton, all of Pine Bush, New York;  great grandchildren, Oliver and Keira Holmes, of Kittanning; brothers, Robert and Philip Hopbell; sisters, Jean Paviakovic, Dorothy Winwood, Mildred Samsa, Kathy Sullivan and Merle Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Charles; and sisters, Audrey, Margaret, and Ann.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Kittanning Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Elder Darryl Petrus officiating.
