Janetta Ellen (Anderson) Atherton, 95, of Grove City, formerly of Templeton, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017 at the age of 95-years-old, passed to her heavenly mansion from her earthly cottage in Grove City.  Janetta was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Boggs Township, Armstrong County, Pa., a daughter of the late Incel C. and Martha Jane (Sanford) Anderson.  Janetta married Ralph E. Atherton, Jr. on March 31, 1938. She was a homemaker much of her life and worked as a packer for 17 ½ years and retired from Big River Manufacturing Company. Throughout her life Janetta was a member of the Templeton Church of God and the church’s Ladies Missionary Society. She was also a member of the church choir and was a youth group leader in her younger years. She and Ralph bought a house in Mosgrove when their three boys were young and she lived there for 65 years before moving to Grove City. Her favorite hobby was quilting and giving her quilts away for others to enjoy. She loved all her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.  Survivors include her niece whom she raised as her daughter, Kathy and husband, Deric, Powell of Grove City, Pa., and three daughter-in-laws, Glenna, Barbara, and Gloria; as well as her 11 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her two sisters, Elsie Slagle of Templeton and Hazel Reedy of North Carolina; and one brother, Edward (Barbara) Anderson of Templeton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph “Crabby” Atherton of 48 ½ years, who died on Oct. 3, 1986; and her three sons who she always lovingly referred to as her “three little boys”, Ronald in 2016, Donald in 2013, and Richard in 2012; two grandsons; as well as five brothers and five sisters.  Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at the Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning until the funeral service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Molgaard officiating. Interment will be in Cochran Cemetery, Templeton.
