John W. "Huffy" Hufhand

John W. “Huffy” Hufhand, 89, of Kittanning, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.

He was born December 1, 1927, in Manorville to the late Homer and Emma (Lytle) Hufhand.

John was self employed, owning Huffy’s Auto Wrecking from 1949-1975 and John Hufhand General Hauling.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He attended Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church.

John was a member of Masonic Lodge 805, New Castle Consistory, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, Elks Lodge #203, and VFW Post 4843.

He received the “Quilt of Valor” at the Armstrong Folk Festival in 2015.

John was also a Shrine Clown, known as “Huffy the Clown”.

He enjoyed traveling, drinking coffee with the McDonald’s guys, as well as spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Left to cherish John’s memory is his wife of 68 years, Alice (Calhoun) Hufhand, of Kittanning; daughter, Linda (Bill) Forester, of Kittanning; son, Tom (Cathy) Hufhand, of Kittanning; grandchildren, Sonya Mattocks (friend, Tom McMillen), Rev. Dr. Randall (Kathy) Forester, Jason (Jaycee) Hufhand, and Jill (Sean) Krings; great grandchildren, Devin McElfresh (Fiance, Rashell Blystone), Lynze Cosgrove (Fiance, Zach Hartman), Emily, Olivia, Colin, and Joshua Krings, Abigail Bellas, Augustin and Angelica Forester, Madison and Brook Hufhand; great great grandchildren Isabella, Alice, Ivy, and Tallen; brother, William Hufhand; sisters, Elva Schiano and Yvonne Hetrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Barb Dunn and Janet Mellon.

Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning, and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Edward Walters and the Rev. Charles Layne co-officiating. Interment will be in Mateer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th St., Erie, Pa 16505.
