John Paul "Jack" Paine

January 22, 1928 ~ September 29, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

John Paul “Jack” Paine, 89, of Philadelphia, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at the Philadelphia VA Hospital.  He was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late James and Teresa Paine.  He worked in the hotel business and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.  He was of the Catholic faith, actively serving in Philadelphia churches for many years.  John had a passion for music, writing many ballets and performing for many groups. He loved singing and playing his Spanish guitar.  John was recognized by the Library of Congress as the founder and creator of Queen Isabella Day, which is celebrated each April 22, on her birthday. For his efforts, Spain bestowed its highest civil honor to him with a medal of distinction. This endeavor took a lot of hard work, but John received many letters of support from Governors all over the United States declaring April 22nd Queen Isabella Day.  Left behind to cherish his memory are brother, Ronald J. Paine and wife, Jane, of Kittanning; nephew, Ronald “Scot” Paine of Natrona Heights; and niece, Susan (Matthew) Ruffner of Valencia, Calif. and their sons, Brady and Gavin.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene (Pearl) Paine; and sister, Betty Paine.  Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at the Snyder Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas E. Dorula officiating.
