Leroy Miller Harnish, Jr., 71, of West Kittanning, died on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at Premier Armstrong Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Kittanning. He was born on April 21, 1947, in Oil City, Pa., to Leroy M. and Geraldine F. (Ganoe) Harnish. Lee was the human resource manager at Eljer Plumbingware in Ford City for more than 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army for 11 years and retired as a Captain Commander of H.Q. & H.Q. Detachment 335th Personnel Administration Battalion, and was also personnel and intelligence officer of battalion. Lee was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church in Kittanning. He was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge 203, served on board of the United Way for several years, former member of Chamber of Commerce and former Armstrong Youth Football board member and coach. He enjoyed reading, working in the yard, golfing, being a sport statistician, and spending time with grandkids and family.
Lee leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife, Mary Ellen (Melillo) Harnish; mother, Geraldine F. Harnish, of Kittanning; daughter, Gretchen L. (Harnish) Contrael and husband, Thomas Kipp Contrael, of Cranberry Township; son, Jonathan Harnish, of Ben Avon; grandson, Kade G. Contrael, of Cranberry Township; granddaughter, Malayna R. Contrael, of Cranberry Township; grandson, Lukas H. Contrael, of Cranberry Township; sister, Sandra K. Garris, of Kittanning; brother, Richard W. (Annetta) Harnish, of New Holland, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Philomena R. Rettig; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy M. Harnish, Sr.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, from 1-5 p.m. Parting Prayers will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary, Our Lady Of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Victor Suansing Baguna officiating. Interment will be in Kittanning Cemetery.
