Melvin Dwight Farster

Melvin Dwight Farster, 95, of Kittanning, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at ACMH Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1922, in Echo, Pa., to the late Herbert Lee and Pansy Mae (Neal) Farster.

He was a lifelong resident of the area except for four years from 1941-1944 when he lived in Ohio.

He worked at the Eljer Corporation for 22 years, then at Logsden Cabinet Shop in Manorville for 14 years, before being self employed.

He was a member of the Mt. Union Bible Church for 80 years, and he recently attended the First Baptist Church in Distant.

He was a member of the Woodmen of the world since 1963, the All –Star Baseball team of the Armstrong County League in 1939-1940, former school board member, township Auditor, sang bass in the Keystone Quartet, and other southern gospel groups, he also taught Sunday School for 60 years.

Mr. Farster enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife around his house, listening to southern gospel music, baseball, math, crossword puzzles, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 76 years who he married on April 23, 1941, Mary Margaret (Lamison) Farster of Kittanning.

Additional survivors are: two sons: Robert A. (Frances Morock) Farster, of Kittanning, and Herbert (Jacqueline Rosenberger) Farster, of Kittanning; two daughters: Janet (George) Piper, of Kittanning, and Patricia (Terry) Carnes, of Perkasie, Pa.; nine grandchildren: Brad Farster, Beth Ann (Ben) Clever, Denise (Randy) Quinn, Ryan (Heidi) Farster, Nathan (Ashley) Farster, Kristin Farster Willman, Nick (fiancé Josie) Farster, David Carnes and Jonathan Carnes; three step grandchildren: Samuel (Dawn) Piper, Jake (Kathy) Piper and Jody Mc- Cullough; seven great grandchildren: Cody Cox, Hannah Quinn, Sara Clever, Kaylyn Farster, Abigail Quinn, Katie Clever, Lucas Farster, and one great granddaughter due March 2018; seven step great grandchildren: Sammy Piper, Joshua Piper, Megan McCullough, Gregory Mc- Cullough, Emily Hackett, Brittany Funkhouser and Dylan Funkhouser; numerous nieces and nephews; and three step great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Omar, Robert B., and William Farster; a sister: Betty; and a son: Timothy Ross Farster.

Friends will be received 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning. A funeral service will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at the Mt. Union Bible Church where there will be additional visitation on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Lyle Westover and Rev. Richard Burns will be officiating. Interment will be in the Hills Church Cemetery.
