R. Michael Atwood, 66, of Kittanning, died on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, in Allegheny Valley Hospital. He was born Jan. 13, 1952, in Kittanning, to the late Frank W. and Anna Rea (Emminger) Atwood. He was a lifelong resident of the community. Mike was a wholesale warehouseman for Dean Phipps and Pollock Candy. He was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church in Kittanning, where he was a former usher and altar server. Mike also belonged to the Kittanning Men’s Club and the Kittanning Eagles. He enjoyed volunteering and helping others and had many friends and also enjoyed many kinds of sports. Mike was a 1969 graduate of Ford City High School and as a teenager was a DJ at the YMCA dances. Survivors include: daughter Kristen (Ian) Durst of Kittanning; five brothers: Greg (Joyce) Atwood of Ohio; Joe (Judy) Atwood of Kittanning; Don (LuAnn) Atwood of Kittanning;Jack (Judy) Atwood of Indianapolis;Bill Atwood of Kittanning; sister Carol (Dan) Stanley of Ohio; grandson Logan Durst of Kittanning; and companion Beth Gradwell of Ford City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frankie at birth, Larry (Chas), and Rob Atwood.
Family and friends will be received in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 South McKean St., Kittanning, PA 16201 on Monday Dec. 17, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.Parting prayers will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Our Lady Of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Douglas Dorula officiating.
