Rayburn Atherton Obituary

Rayburn D. Atherton, 75, of Kittanning, died Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.  Born July 21, 1942, in Templeton, he was the son of the late Henry and Helen (Lockhart) Atherton.  He graduated from Dayton High School, class of 1960.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving 20 years and retiring as a Senior Chief.  After retiring from the Navy, he then went on to work for Motorola, working in Quality & Compliance Management, which took him all over the world. Traveling was what he loved to do.

Rayburn is survived by his wife, Judy Atherton, of Kittanning; son, Randy (Chris) Atherton, of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Trevor and Katie Atherton, of Texas; sisters, Lois Walker, of Chesterton, Ind. and Carol Swast, of Mansfield, Pa.; brother, Robert Atherton, of Greencastle, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ed Atherton.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St. Kittanning with Rev. Jessica McClure Archer officiating.  Military Honors will follow the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Rayburn’s honor to the Hillman Cancer Center via Development, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa 15232.
