Robert G. Essenwein, 82, of Kittanning, died Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Premier Armstrong Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility in Kittanning.
He was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Kittanning to the late Alfred and Olive (Emminger) Essenwein.
He was a retired school teacher.
He taught for more than 30 years, mostly in the Redbank Valley School District. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kittanning.
He enjoyed going to the senior center, where he was a formerly on the Board of Directors.
Robert was active in the 2010 census. He was also a former basketball coach for Redbank Valley.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Krystale A. (John) Hohn, Richard R. (Ellen) Essenwein, and John (Jessica) Essenwein; grandchildren, Colton Lee (Emalee) Hohn, Sierra Marie Hohn (fiancé, A.J. Weinel), and Trevor John Essenwein; sister, Jeannine (Basil) Swisher; sisters in-law, Cile Essenwein and Patricia Rea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley (Rea) Essenwein, who passed away in 2013; sister, Peggy Lou Essenwein; and brother, Alfred Essenwein.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at First Baptist Church, 334 Arch St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Mark Brady officiating.
Interment will be in Cochran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kittanning Senior Center, 125 Queen St., Kittanning.
