Russell E. Collar, 74, of Cowansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 31, 1944, in Sherrett, to the late Harry and Doris (Hornberger) Collar. Russell was a 1962 graduate of East Brady High School, where he played football. He served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany, during the Vietnam Era. He retired from Allegheny Ludlum after 36 years of service. Russell was a member of the Burnt Ridge Bow and Gun Club, the Cowansville American Legion, and the Keystone Kruisers Car Club.
In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and trapper. For the past 25 years, his passion was his antique and classic cars. He and his wife enjoyed attending the many car cruises around the area and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his wife Shirley (Harkleroad) Collar, whom he married July 4, 1987, at the Franklin Union Baptist Church, near Worthington; brothers, Michael “Flea” and Walter “Cheese” Collar; daughter, Sherry (Rob) Montgomery; two step sons, Leo and Kevin Duttry; four grandchildren, Tiffany Montgomery, Nichole (Nate) Davies, Bethany (Alex) Bowser, and Dylan Duttry; and three great-grandchildren, Micah and Eli Davies, and Jase Bowser.
He was a loving husband, father, and “pappy,” his memory will be cherished by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved Lab “Shado.”
There will be no public viewing. A funeral service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 832 East Brady Road, Cowansville, with the Rev. Edward Walters officiating. Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Russell’s honor to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pa. 16001.
