It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, A. Bonnie (River) Ambrose, 91, of Driftwood, Pa., who passed away on Monday, April 29, 2025 at Penn Highlands Hospital in DuBois, Pa. She was born February 5, 1934 in Lower Furnace Run to the late Robert Daniel and Roxie J. (Ledford) River. She was retired from Moonlight Mushroom in West Winfield and Worthington. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She married the love of her life, James Ambrose, on July 26, 1952. In 2007, they sold their family home in Tarrtown and fulfilled a lifelong dream and moved to their camp in Hicks Run. Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved playing cards or talking genealogy with her daughter for hours on end. She loved reading, Sudoku puzzles, Fox News, her church family and bible study. Her famous coconut cream pies and macaroni salad will be missed.
She leaves behind to forever cherish her memory, her daughters, Sally (Jeff) Holmes, of Marienville, Pa., Tammy (Craig) Hughes, of Leitchfield, KY and Amy (Keith) Bash, of Fox Chapel; son, James T. Ambrose, Jr., of Driftwood, Pa.; nine grandchildren: Rob (Alecia) Morrow, Mel (Brad) Sheasley, Jamie (John) Olvera, Jeff Holmes, Ashley (Chase) Stephens, Erica (Kyle) Nichols, Sidney Bash (Kevin Keppel), Hayden Bash and Cameron Ambrose; 13 great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Graydon Sheasley, Jullius and Jacoby Olvera, Elizabeth and Evelynne Holmes, Berkley, Ellery and Finley Stephens, and Presley, Kolbie, Harlee and Bodhi Nichols. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, James Ambrose; daughter, Beverly Morrow, and son-in-law, Robert Morrow; grandson, David Holmes; and her brothers, Gene, Bob, Tony and Danny River.
Friends will be received at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, Pa. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m., with Pastor Missy Smith officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Bonnie's honor to Kittanning Public Library or the American Heart Association.
