Alan Mitchell Thomas, 81, of Kittanning died Thursday, August 7, 2025 in his residence with his loving wife by his side.
He was born October 6, 1943 in Florence, South Carolina to the late Mildred Lankerd Bevington Thomas. Al previously worked at Pullman Standard before becoming the director and retiring from the Kittanning #6 Ambulance Service. He also served as the Armstrong County Chief Deputy Coroner for 28 years.
He was a US Army Veteran, 82nd Airborne Division, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was deployed to Santo Domingo as a paratrooper. He was a lifetime member of Kittanning Hose Company #6 and belonged to the Pennsylvania State Fireman's Association, the Western Pennsylvania Fireman's Association and the Armstrong County Fireman's Association and EMS Association. He was also a Mason and belonged to the Elk's in Kittanning.
Al enjoyed going out to eat, finding the "perfect Pork Chop" or hot and sour soup. He housed college students attending the Kittanning campus of IUP for many years and they were affectionately known as Al's Beach Boys and Al's Angels.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 33 years Edith (Weigel) Thomas of Kittanning, sons A. Michael Thomas of Kittanning and John Thomas of Denver, Stepdaughter Jennifer (Hartman) Bellas and husband Bob of Kittanning, Stepson Thomas Hartman and wife Rebecca of Lancaster, grandchildren Stephen Thomas of Indianapolis, Sonya Thomas of Tarentum, Cherie Thomas of Butler, Halie Walstead of Montana, Preston Bellas, Payton Bellas and Porter Bellas all of Kittanning and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he proceeded in death by one brother, David "Joe" Stewart.
Family and Friends will be received on Sunday, August 10, 2025 in the Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, 253 N. Grant Ave, Kittanning PA 16201 from 2-7 pm. Additional viewing will be held in the funeral home on Monday, August 11, 2025 from noon until time of services at 1 pm with Rev. Edward Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Kittanning Hose Company #6 Ambulance Service, PO Box 451, Kittanning.
