Allen Blaine Hooks

Allen Blaine “Sam” Hooks, 90, died Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, PA.  Born November 1, 1932 in Houston, Texas, Allen grew up in Adrian, PA and spent most of his adult working life in Greensburg, PA.  After graduating from East Brady High School, Allen served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.  He earned his Master’s in Education at the University of Pittsburgh and was a Business Education Teacher at Hempfield High School for 32 years.  He also worked for his father-in-law, James P. Gaut, at his funeral home in Pleasant Unity, PA.  He was a member of Harrold Zion Lutheran Church in Greensburg.  Allen was a gifted musician and bass guitarist and shared his talent and love of country music playing in various bands in the Greensburg area. 

Allen was the son of the late Roy W. and Edna R. (Johns) Hooks. In 1961, he married Nancy J. (Gault) who preceded in him death on September 10, 2011. Allen is survived by a brother, James D. Hooks, Ph.D., of Kittanning; his daughter, Wendy A. Nickerson, of Meadville; two granddaughters, Jennifer L. Bannon (Daniel Baker and his daughter, Aubrey), of Kennerdell and Kayla A. Bannon (Bryan Koyton), of Pittsburgh; and a great-granddaughter, Carley J. Scheller. Allen is also survived by many loving cousins and friends. 

Family and friends are welcomed for visitation on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with funeral services to immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 832 East Brady Rd., Cowansville, PA. Pastor William Moser from Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worthington will officiate.  Interment will follow at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Adrian, PA.
