Angelo Zeolla, 93, of Kittanning, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. He was born August 24, 1928 in Decorata, Italy, a son of the late Libera and Saverio Zeolla. Angelo came to the U.S. in 1939 with his mother at the age of 11, from Italy, where he was born a U.S. citizen. Their ship, the Rex, was the last ship Mussolini allowed to leave for America before the outbreak of WWII. Angelo was raised in Tarentum and was a graduate of Tarentum High School where he played on the football team. He served his county in the U.S. Army infantry during WWII and then again as a surgical technician/medic in the Korean War. He served as a volunteer fireman at Highland Hose Company #1 where he made valued friendships. He married Lucy Lillian Zeolla of Kittanning on October 30, 1954. He was employed by Eljer for 36 years. Angelo was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church in Kittanning and also the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul store where he made valued friendships. Angelo enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and watching sporting events. He made a famous salsa that he enjoyed sharing with friends and family. He was beloved by his family.
Left behind to cherish his memory includes his wife of 68 years, Lucy Lillian Zeolla; three daughters, Kathryn (David) Turner, of Kittanning, Lisa (Kelly) Rettig, of Kittanning, and Jennifer Frick, of Natrona Heights, Pa; six grandchildren, Pete (Melissa) Turner, Dave (Jodi Cohen) Turner, Michael Rettig, Dominic Rettig, Lucia Rettig, and Kristen Frick; four great-grandchildren, Laney Turner, Ethan Turner, Jacob Turner, and Sylvie Turner; and brother, Nolf (Jane) Zeolla, of Morganton, NC. Angelo was preceded in death by his parents, Saveria (Sam) and Libera Zeolla, and brother, John Martuccio.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St, Kittanning, PA. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church, 101 W. High St., Kittanning with Father Ronald Maquinana officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Kittanning.
