Annajean Holben, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, went to be with her Lord in heaven on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at her home in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. She was 96 years old.
A talented artist (quilting, knitting, crocheting, needlework), who loved to bowl, watch Pittsburgh Pirate Baseball, play games (cards, Scrabble, and other board games), read her Bible (A favorite passage: John 14), and serve at the Center Hill Church of the Brethren, Annajean or AJ was born Leona Annajean McFarland in 1925 in Rossiter, Pennsylvania, to parents Violet (States) and James McFarland. Her priority was her family, whom she faithfully and selflessly served, even into her twilight years.
Annajean graduated from Ambridge High School and worked during World War II as a secretary at Dravo Corporation’s Neville Island Shipyard, where she met her late husband of 57 years, Robert Eugene Holben, who died in 2001. Although never one to boast, she considered her greatest accomplishments to be her children and grandchildren.
Her children, Edward (and wife, Nancy), Robert (and wife, Sandy), Pamela, and David (and wife, Lisa), who survive her, remember her genuine love and care for them. One son died in 1946 at birth. In addition to her surviving children, Annajean is mourned by seven grandchildren, Denise (Collier), Brian, Robie, Lori (Tang), Nicole (Rendo), Ezra, and Ethan, along with several great and great great grandchildren.
The family thanks Cheryl Ridinger and the Concordia Hospice staff, including Patti, Tammy, Mel, and Jessica, for their loving care provided to Annajean and Jeff Jackson for serving Annajean and being a light to our family.
Visitation will be held at Center Hill Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, from Noon-1:00 pm, with the funeral service to immediately follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Donald Peters officiating. Interment will be in Center Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning.
