Arnold Crawford Obituary

Arnold Lloyd Crawford, 87, of Kittanning, died on Friday May 6, 2022, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.  He was born on April 5, 1935, in Kittanning to the late Arnold L. & Nellie O. Crawford.  Also known as Arnie, Midge, Junior, dad, grandpa, pop pop, and great father, Arnold was a lead linemen for 37 years at West Penn Power retiring in 1996. He would go to work anytime, day or night and even on holidays, because he wanted to be certain that West Penn customers had electricity as soon as possible after an outage.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1955-1959 and was very proud of his service. Arnie was also a member of the First Methodist Church, Kittanning Elks Lodge No. 203, and Seneca 805 Masonic Lodge.  He was a man with a gruff exterior and a huge heart, always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He generously gave his time and knowledge to help family and friends with many projects.  His love for and loyalty to his family was bottomless. We will miss his presence and him cheering us all on.

His favorite thing to do was to spend time with family, especially attending all his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s various activities. He could always be seen at soccer, baseball, t-ball, and basketball games, dance recitals and birthday taco dinners.
During his lifetime, he was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking, vegetable gardening and trying his luck visiting casinos; especially with his wife, Phyllis.

Arnold leaves behind to cherish his memory: daughter, Mindy (Jamie) Owen of Kittanning; son, David (Kim) Crawford of Kittanning; daughter, Beth (Randy) Smith of Carlisle, Pa.; grandchildren: Christy & Tom Gross of Pennsylvania, Zachary & Erin Owen of Colorado, Colby & Lexxie Owen of Pennsylvania, Katie & David Edgmon of Pennsylvania, Alyssa & Ryan Shattuck of Pennsylvania, Shelby Smith of Texas, Caleb & Elizabeth Smith of Pennsylvania, and Dean Smith, Ashton Smith and Peyton Smith all of Pennsylvania; great grandchildren: Luke Gross, Jacob Gross, Isaac Owen, Anderson Owen, Mia Owen, Quinn Owen, Madeline Owen, Jude Owen, Hunter Edgmon, Levi Edgmon, Greyson Edgmon and Emma Edgmon; brother & sister in law: George “Karl” & Sallie Stennett; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis J. Crawford, who passed away on May 5, 2007; sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley & Robert Mateer, Jonell & Russell Schrecengost, and Bonnie & William Hill; and brothers and sisters-in-law, John & Janet Stennett, Donnabelle & Albert Gangloff, and June & Phillip Helm.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 South McKean St., Kittanning, PA 16201.
