Calvin Bowser Obituary

Calvin L. Bowser, of Kittanning, PA was honored with a trip to Heaven on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 to join his parents, Ivan L. Bowser and Norma M. (Cooper) Bowser and grandparents, Calvin and Harriet Lena (Stitt) Bowser and Orion E. and Ethel (Lewis) Cooper. Born 27 October 1947 in Kittanning, he graduated in 1965 from Kittanning Senior High School, 1978 from Northwestern College of Allied Sciences in Tulsa, OK and 1990 from U.S. Army Logistics College in Ft. Lee, VA. He was employed locally Sherwin-Williams Paints, Luries Market and Castle Rubber Company, and in 1969 accepting employment as an Army Reserve Civilian Technician, retiring as a Senior Maintenance Manager with 39.5 years of service. Calvin enlisted in the Army Reserve 23 Oct 1966, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8) and on 10 March 1980 being commissioned as a Chief Warrant Officer retiring 28 October 2006 as a CWO4 with 40 years 5 days service. A veteran of the First Gulf War in 1990-1991 he served in all 3 campaigns, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Desert Farwell and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service. He was a member of Center Hill Covenant Brethren Church, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) PA 22-2, Pennsylvania AMVETS Life Member and past Finance Officer and Vice Commander of Post #13 Kittanning, PA, VFW Post 4843 Ford City, PA, American Legion Post 0325 Cowansville, PA, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Patriot Guard, F&AM Kittanning East Brady Lodge #244, and Forest County Sportsman Club. He considered being a parent to his two children the greatest accomplishment in his life.

On 25 May 1991 he met his wife Mary Ann who had sent a letter to a soldier at war with a package of a 1LB canned ham, a bottle of pepsi and a snickers candy bar, and they were married on 17 Dec 1994 by his war buddy Dr. Reverend Lt Col Barry Walker.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children, Stacy Bowser Huth and Shawn US Marine Corps (Heather) Bowser; bonus children, Kristie (Dave) Nosich, Tom US Navy (Christy) Holton and Amanda (Bradley) Simon; grandchildren, Nathan Christiansen, Braden Huth (Army), Bailen Huth, Tayne Christiansen, Murphy Holton, Calista Bowser, Harlie Holton, Cooper Holton, Maggie Simon and Max Simon; great-grandchild, Keegan Huth; brother, Tim (Robin) Bowser; sisters, Amy (Doug) Sedwick and L. Sue (Dave) Beighley.

Friends will be received on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning, PA. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 6 at Center Hill Covenant Brethren Church, 2039 Freeport Rd., Kittanning from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Donald Peters and Rev. Elva Jean Westlake co-officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Center Hill Church cemetery.
