Danny Goldinger, Sr. Obituary

Danny Edward Goldinger, Sr., age 84, of Kittanning, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 13, 2026 surrounded by the family he cherished above all else.  He was born in Kittanning, the son of the late Edward and Mary Marie Goldinger, and was a lifetime resident of the community.  Prior to retirement he was a Supervisor in the coal mines and served as East Franklin Township Supervisor as well as a Federal Mine Inspector.  He also served as a board member of the Kittanning Joint Water Authority.   He belonged to the Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church and was a member of the Elk’s Lodge and Free Masons.  Dan took immense pride in his family, and the center of his world was his beloved wife of 63 wonderful years, Peg Goldinger. He affectionately called her “Womy,” a name that reflected their deep bond, shared laughter, and a lifetime of love and partnership.  Family was everything to Dan. He found his greatest joy in being a husband, dad, and grandfather. Whether gathered around the table, watching a game together, or sharing stories, Dan made every moment meaningful, many times just observing the chaos.

Dan was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a Pirates or Steelers game. His love for Pittsburgh sports ran deep, and he cheered with passion through every season—good or bad. His enthusiasm for sports also extended onto the field; Dan spent many years coaching baseball, encouraging young athletes with patience, pride, and a genuine desire to help them grow. His 1987 Big League State Championship win was one of his greatest joys.  One of Dan’s greatest passions was hunting, a tradition that brought him peace, excitement, and treasured time with the people he loved most. He especially enjoyed hunting with his close friends, but nothing meant more to him than the days spent in the woods with his son and grandsons. Those moments created cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family for generations.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Life Armstrong for the exceptional compassion, dignity, and support they provided to Dan. Their staff treated him not just as a patient, but as a person—offering comfort, patience, and kindness during every step of his journey.

Dan will be remembered for his kindness, his steady presence, and the humor he brought to every conversation. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter that will continue to inspire all who knew him.  Survivors include his wife, of 63 years, Margaret (Peg Ford) Goldinger, of Kittanning; daughter, Joyce (Jeff) Eroh; daughter, Amy Lhote (John Harkness); son, Danny (Angela) Goldinger, Jr.; daughter, Andrea (Mark) Shirey; sisters, Carolyn Ingram, Diann (Edward) Walters and Linda (Russell) Ion; in-laws, Sydney and Margaret Ford (Deceased); brothers/sisters-in-law, Frank Ford (deceased), Linda Bowser (deceased), Connie Bish, Nancy Belles and Richard Ford; grandchildren, Tyler Eroh (Megan), Bethany Simmons (Travis), Katy Tarr (Jacob), Stephen Lhote, Michael Lhote (Kinzie), Morgan Goldinger, Madison Goldinger, Makenna Goldinger, Alexander Shirey, Abigail Shirey and bonus grandchildren, Nick Keefer and Kelsey Parisi; great-grandchildren, Emmitt Tarr, Tucker Tarr, Alice Simmons, Henry Simmons, Fletcher Tarr, Kip Eroh, and future baby Lhote; and many nieces and nephews.
