David Paul Klingerman Obituary

David Paul Klingerman, 63, of Kittanning, passed away peacefully on Monday May 25, 2026 after a courageous two-year battle with Gliobastoma Multiforme. He faced his illness with the same quiet strength, humor, and resilience that defined his entire life.

Born on January 18, 1963, to the late Winifred and Paul Klingerman, David lived a life marked by devotion-to his family, to his patients, and to the many passions that brought him joy.

David graduated from Gateway High School in 1981 and attended LaRoche College, where he studied graphic design before discovering his true calling in healthcare. He went on to earn his Associates Degree in Nursing from Allegheny Community College in 1998, beginning a remarkable 24-year career with the Veterans Health System. His service included roles in Aspinwall Long-Term Care, University Drive 5 West Med-Surg, the Emergency Room, Dialysis, Patient Care Coordinator, Bed Control RN, Community Care, and the Veterans Call Center. He retired in December 2025.

David's compassion for veterans was unmatched. He took special pride in organizing Pittsburgh Pirates baseball outings for dialysis patients through VA Volunteer Services-a gesture that brought joy to countless veterans and reflected his generous heart.

on June 5, 2014, David married the love of his life, Lori Ellen (McIllwain) Klingerman, on a rainy day in Duck, North Carolina, a place that became their shared sanctuary. David was a devoted husband who made sure Lori never left the house without a warm cup of coffee and breakfast. He faithfully drove her to Maryland and New Jersey each month for her Army Reserve drills- a quiet, steadfast act of Love that defined their marriage.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Lori; his stepsons, William (Allie) Cunningham, Michael Cunningham, and Sean (Karissa) Cunningham; his cherished grandchildren Emmaleah Cunningham and Charlie Cunningham; he is also survived by his sisters Kimberly (Michael) McNally and Lori (Keith) Koster; his nieces and nephews Killian McNally, Daniel McNally, Dylan Garland, Kaylee Garland, and Jenna Garland.

His home was filled with warmth and laughter, thanks in part to the rescue pets he adored: Ellie, Daisy, Archie, and Shadow. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Labradors Brach and Reese.

David enjoyed bowling, skiing, weightlifting, whiskey tasting, and collecting sports memorabilia- especially bobbleheads. His encyclopedic knowledge of sports statistics and music trivia was legendary among friends and family.

David's life was rich with love, loyalty, and purpose. He will be remembered for his gentle heart, his humor, and the countless ways he cared for others- often quietly, always sincerely.

To celebrate his life, we ask that visitors consider wearing their favorite team colors, t-shirt, or game jersey for Monday's funeral service.
