Obituary

Dennis Merle Beer, 73, of Ford City, formerly of Kittanning, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at his residence.  He was born in Kittanning Hospital on Nov. 16, 1948, the son of Merle and Shirley Beer.  Denny worked at the Department of Public Welfare for more than 35 years, where he did employment training and had an SSI case load.  He served as a union steward for several years, was a member of the Jaycees and was also a member of Armstrong/Clarion Labor Counsel Committee.  Denny was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Ford City.  He attended Sunday school and helped on several committees. He loved the Young at Heart lunches and steak dinners.  Denny was a pitcher for the Lenape Little League, was a charter member of the Ponees and was scouted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies. He played baseball for IUP and coached Little League for 13 years. Later in life, he coached T-ball for his grandson’s team and also played for his church softball team. He looked forward to playing softball for his church team this spring.  He graduated from Kittanning High School in 1966, and from IUP with a degree in teaching in 1971.  Denny and his wife, Debby, loved taking their dachshunds to different rescue events all over. Denny loved rescue transports. His favorite was the Cleveland Browns Race at halftime at the Cleveland Brown’s stadium, where Suzzy won in 2017. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, long walks along the river and picnics. Denny enjoyed his family and extended family and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.  He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Deborah S. Beer, whom he married June 13, 1998; his sons: Andrew J. Crissman, of Ford City, Patrick A. Crissman, of Kellersburg and Eric C. Beer (Kristy), of Millersville; grandchildren: Caden, Kenzie, Ryan, Hailey and Noah Crissman, Ryhleigh Beer and Mya Toy; his dachshunds: Cammy, Luccy and Suzzy; sister, Bonnie Gallaher; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle (2001) and Shirley Beer (2006); mother-in-law, Betty Crissman (2018); brother-in-law, Bill Gallaher (2020); and dogs, Hershey (2010) and Barley (2021).
