Earl Franklin Smith, 94, of Butler, Pa. died on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025 at Seasons of Saxonburg. He was born November 11, 1931 in Worthington, Pa. the son of Benjamin F. And Dorothy June (Shay) Smith. Earl was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany and France during the Cold War. He was a steel worker for the majority of his life, working at Ferrios Slag, Youngstown Sheet & Tube, in Monesson, and at Sharon Works where he drove at least 1 hour each way to and from and told us stories about getting sleepy on the trip home. He had to pull off to sleep until the car would get cold and wake him up to drive home. As a family, we never were lacking, evening through layoffs, as Dad and Mom knew how to make due. He was a member of North Main Church of God in Butler for many years and also visited Grace Way Church every other Sunday. He was a Mason, belonging to Kittanning-East Brady F&AM Lodge No. 244. Earl cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He looked forward to going camping with "the boys" and later on to go hunting with them. He also enjoyed camping with his granddaughters and hunting with Sherry, who got her first buck. Earl was also an avid bird lover, knowing the names of all of them. He loved to mow his grass and work outside doing anything too.
Left behind to forever cherish his memory includes his daughters, Sherry (Tim) Burka, of Lyndora and Shawnee (Mick) Fitz, of Petrolia; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Smith, of Worthington; and sister, Ester Neupert, of Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Dorothy Smith; his wife, Shirley (Crissman) Smith; infant daughter, Shirley; brother, Carl Smith; and sisters, Ruth Gaggini and infant Linda.
Friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025 at F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington, Pa with a Masonic service being held at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, at the funeral home with Pastor Christy Pittman officiating, with an additional hour of visitation prior to the service.
