Emogene Mary Lasher, known by most as Jean, passed away on November 11, 2022, surrounded by loving family and friends. Jean was born on December 13th, 1928, in Kittanning, Pa to the late Edith E., and Simon L. Claypool. She married her love and companion in life, Dale F. Lasher on May 29th, 1954. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage until his passing in 2018. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Pete Claypool, Dorothy (Ralph) Bowser, Betty Claypool, and Gordon Claypool. Jean was a resident of Armstrong County the majority of her life until relocating to the Wynwood House in State College, PA to be closer to her daughter, Elizabeth.
Jean is survived by her only daughter, Elizabeth Lasher, of State College and by her nieces and nephews Cheryl and Mike Choncek; Linda and Giovanni Palma; Veryl and Dianna Wolfe; and Janice and Dan Parkhill. She was also preceded in death by her niece Carol Henry.
Jean lived a full and happy life enjoying many interests and activities. She was a devoted mother and wife and an active volunteer in her church and community. A woman of many talents, Jean enjoyed crafting and arts of all sorts including sewing, quilting, painting, drawing, canning, and baking delicious desserts to share. Together with Dale, she passed this love of arts, crafts, fixing, and creating to their daughter, Elizabeth. Jean and Dale also enjoyed traveling early in their marriage, and in later years they enjoyed traveling with Butler Motor Tours, meeting many friends along their journeys and seeing wonderful sites together across the US.
Jean had a strong faith and a deep sense of service to others. She was an active member of Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church in Kittanning, Pa. She and Dale enjoyed being involved with church activities, dinners, and functions, as well as community events of all sorts. Over the years, she was also a member of the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.
The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation of the support and tender care provided by the staff and caregivers at Wynwood House, Grane Hospice of Altoona, Pa, and those that cared for her when she was in her home.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 12:00-3:00 pm at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean Street, Kittanning, Pa. A Christian service will be held at 3:00 pm with Pastors Tom Beers and Charles Layne officiating. Burial will be at the Lawn Haven Burial Estates Mausoleum.
