Franklin Tarr Obituary

Franklin R. Tarr, 86, of Kittanning passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.  Franklin was born March 20, 1938, in Tarrtown, PA, to the late John and Elizabeth (Rice) Tarr. 

Franklin was retired from the U.S. Army and also worked with PA Conservation Corps. He was a member of the Kittanning Elks and a lifetime member of the VFW.  Franklin enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 9, 1961. He served in the Vietnam War and received several awards including the National Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross with Palm, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. Franklin received Honorable Discharge in March of 1981, at the rank of Master Sergeant. 

Franklin loved spending time with his family including his dogs and cats. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed his time traveling the United States and to other countries for big game hunting. 

Franklin is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Milly Tarr; son, Franklin (Pam) Tarr of Texas; son, Terry (Rebecca) Tarr of Texas; stepson, Lee (Jamie) Grafton of Kittanning; stepson, David Grafton and fiancé Tori Verner of Ford City; sister, Patricia River of New Brighton; sister, Joyce Pirchinello of Ambridge; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Franklin’s memory to First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, PA 16201.
