Fred Sweitzer Obituary

Fred B. Sweitzer, 82, of Manor Township, Ford City, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at The Ridge-Heritage Meadows Personal Care Home in Ford City.  Born March 17, 1940 in Hyde Park, Pa, he was the son of William E. and Bessie Sweitzer. After moving from Hyde Park, the family lived in Bethel Township. He attended Ford City High School, was a U.S. Army veteran, and was employed by Allegheny Ludlum in West Leechburg as a millwright for over 30 years before retiring in 2002.  He enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren and friends, especially holidays and special occasions. Before his illness, he enjoyed going to dances, casinos, traveling and walking, going to favorite restaurants or meeting with his friends for lunch. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Kittanning. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen (McCullough) Sweitzer; daughters, Stacey (Lance) Henry, of Cowansville and Kristen (Steve) Hillebrand, of Kittanning; he was known as “Other Pa” to grandchildren Jacob (Alexis) Henry, Josh Henry and girlfriend, Kate Allen, and granddaughter Molly (Hunter) Ploski; his brothers, Bill Sweitzer, of Leechburg and Bob Sweitzer, of Bethel Township; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, Cora McCullough and Janice Sasaran and brother-in-law, Bill Holsopple.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Wilhelm and Shirley Sweitzer. 

Visitation will be held at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St, Kittanning, Pa on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Additional viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 1, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeri-Lynne Bouterse officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthingon, PA.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Fred's honor to Mechling-Shakely Veterans Center, 1413 St. Rt. 268, Cowansville, PA 16218 or to Grace Presbyterian Church, 155 N. Jefferson St, Kittanning, PA 16201.

The family would like to thank Erin, Tim and staff at The Ridge-Heritage Meadows as well as Amedisys Hospice for all the kindness and care towards Fred.
