Frederick Long Obituary

Frederick Alan Long, “Papaw”, 69, of Kittanning, peacefully found his way to heaven on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from a very short battle of Stage IV small cell lung cancer that metastasized to his brain.  He passed away at home with his family by his side.  Fred was born on June 5, 1951 to Paul and Dolly Long.  He married the love of his life, Dee (Dunmire) Long, and they would have been married 49 years this June.  For ten years, Fred worked at the Freeport Brick Company.  Fred also enjoyed working at the Allegheny Power Plant.  After retiring from the power plant, Fred worked at CWM for a few years. Fred served three years in the Army as part of the United States Army Security Agency in Germany during the Vietnam era.  Fred enjoyed spending time in the kitchen with his best friend and beloved wife Dee, helping her bake and cook.  He especially enjoyed baking Christmas cookies every year with Dee.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding the side by side with his children and grandchildren, and spending time with his neighbor and special friend, Fran.  Fred loved history and taking trips to Gettysburg with his family.  Most of all, Fred loved his family and dedicated his life to making memories with them.  He will be remembered by his famous saying “guess what's comin’ down the highway!” Fred truly loved to love and bring happiness to others.  Fred is a family man, he is known by many as a kind and selfless man that would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need.  He took pride in his grandchildren and taught them how to fish, hunt, read, swim, drive, cook (but not as good as their mamaw), and to always love and be kind to others.

Fred is survived by his wife, Dee; daughter, Carrie; son, Adam; grandchildren, Hannah, Taylor (Nick), Tanner, Caden, Kenzie, Drake, and Zane; brothers, Larry, of Kittanning and Paul Jr., of Worthington; and sisters, Lori Kuhn, of Ohio, Kathy Neupert, of Worthington, and Debbie Stouffer, of Walkchalk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dolly; sister, Sandy Damore; and brothers, Lenny and Eugene. He will be forever remembered and missed by many. Following Fred’s wishes, there will not be any services. Arrangements are entrusted to the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning.
