Gale B. (Mechling) Freeman, 87, of Kittanning, died on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, in Quality Life Services-Sugarcreek. She was born on Oct. 21, 1936, in East Kittanning, to the late Lawson and Elsie Mechling.
Gale was a secretary for District Magistrates Homer Crytzer and Jay Young. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in West Kittanning. Gale enjoyed going to luncheons, sending greeting cards for different occasions, reading, making Gale’s Baked Beans for picnics and she loved her cats.
She leaves behind to forever cherish her memory her son, Jack Freeman, Jr.; daughter, Ann (Scott) Hutchison; grandchildren: Joshua, Zackery and Tyler Hutchison; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Stover; brother, Kenny Mechling; sister, Barbie Frederick; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Freeman, Sr.; infant daughter, Betsy; brothers: Daniel Gary Mechling, Jim Mechling and Jack Mechling; and sisters, Betty Cippel and Dolores Salsgiver.
Family and friends of Gale will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, in the Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning.
Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, in the funeral home, until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Orphans of the Storm in Gale’s name.
