Gilbert John Verner, Jr., 88, of Worthington, died on Thursday, June 27, 2024 in Muskegon, Michigan. He was born July 20, 1935 in New Kensington, Pa., the son of Gilbert John Verner, Sr. and Mildred Reasner. He resided in the community for 50 years, working as a union carpenter with Carpenter Union Local 333. He attended Victory Baptist Church. His other memberships included the Elks, Eagles and Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Club. Gilbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, golfing and the fish commission.
Survivors include his daughter, Kim (Glen) Myers, of Fenelton, Pa.; sons, G.R. (Lorraine) Verner, of Boerne, Texas and Scott Verner, of Green River, Wyoming; daughter, Zandra (Peter) Verner, of Whitehall, Michigan; step-son, Doug Walbert, of Slippery Rock, Pa.; step-daughters, Diana Walbert, of Ford City and Penny Walbert, of Muskegon, Michigan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Van Scoyoc; brothers, William Verner (Diana) and Charles Verner (Susan); and sisters, Linda Fitzgerald, Sandra Krejzi and Brenda Slider. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Bartholic, and father, Gilbert John Verner, Sr; his wife, Susan (Toy) Verner; step-mother, Jane Verner; step-son, Clayton Walbert; and brothers, George Verner and Lee Harless.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 6-9 p.m. at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington, Pa. Additional visitation will be held on Tues., July 9, at Victory Baptist Church, 295 Pleasant View Dr., Kittanning, Pa. from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.
