Helen (Dermidzakis) Harkins, 92, of Ford City, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2023. She was born February 17, 1930, the daughter of the late Emanuel “Mike” and Suzanne (Abell) Dermidzakis.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Glenn R. Harkins; brothers Louis H. Bussy, James Dermidzakis, and John J. Dermidzakis; sister Irene Pawkovich.
Survivors include her three daughters, Mrs. Susan (Richard) Hepler, Mrs. Linda (Michael) Cox, and Tammy Harkins DiEmidio all of Kittanning; fours sons William (Barbara) Sowers of Kittanning, Roger Sowers and Douglas Sowers both of Ford City, and Michael (Joyce) Harkins of Cape Coral, FL, she also has 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She also has many nephews and nieces.
As a young girl she enjoyed roller skating and going to the movies, Helen also enjoyed playing Skip Bo with Glady, Margie, Linda, Susan, Tammy, and Doug. She also liked listening to her amish stories. Helen loved sending cards and notes to her friends especially Katie.
Glenn taught her to dance and she loved to line dance for over 30 years with her friends. She enjoyed going to church and to Tuesday night singing at Rosston Church. Helen enjoyed listening to worship music and the preaching of the word. Her hearts desire was to see all her living family living for Jesus. She loved the Lord with all her heart.
As her family we are all so thankful for the good care she received at ACMH, Kittanning Care, and V.N.A. Hospice. They were all very caring and compassionate.
The family will be holding a memorial service for Helen at Cornerstone Assembly of God, 121 Woodland Drive, Kittanning, PA 16201 on February 11, 2023 at 11:00 am for friends and family. Officiating the service is Pastor Jerry Johns and Pastor Michael Bobbitt. Arrangements are under the care of the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning.
