Heaven gained another choir member when Helen departed this life to join her Lord and Savior on February 18, 2025 at Concordia at Cabot. Helen was born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania on September 11, 1936, the daughter of Ellis Fair Walker and Helen Olive (Petsinger) Hansen and step daughter of Williard W. Hansen and Vera Walker.
Helen was a loving wife to Charles E. Thomas Jr. whom she married June 15, 1959. She lived most of her life in the Wick City area of Kittanning and was an active member of the Kittanning Hose Company Number 6 Auxiliary for over 50 years. She was a lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the choir and helped with feeding the community until her health began to fail at the age of 86. She worked for many years in the cafeteria at the Kittanning High School before retiring to be a full time grandma. She enjoyed singing, whistling, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren and church family. She gave the best hugs and was always there to lend a hand or help heal a heart.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Timothy G. (Kay) Thomas of Ford City, Robert M. Thomas of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and Carol A. (Shon) Mechling of Kittanning. She was the proud grandmother of Jennifer (Gabe) Galcik, Jacob Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Margaret (Leland) Claypoole, Nicholas Mechling and Caleb (Annie Linko) Mechling as well as six great grandchildren: Hannah (Chad) Miller, Jenna and Brooke Galcik, Aiden, Mackenzie, and Lily Claypoole and one great-great granddaughter Josie Drew Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, husband and brother Thomas C. Walker and his wife Janice.
Friends will be received on Saturday February 22, 2025 at the Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home in Kittanning from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Sunday February 23, 2025 in the funeral home at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. John Hopkins officiating with additional visitation from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment is in the Kittanning Cemetery.
