Howard Larry Barnett Obituary

Howard Larry "Butch", "Red", "Snork", "Howie", "Barney" Barnett, 83, of Kittanning passed away Saturday August 9, 2025 at ACMH Hospital. He was born July 25, 1942 in Kittanning to the late Ralph M. and Viola (Schrecengost) Barnett-Bowser.


He worked at Castle - Rubber LLC in East Butler until they closed their doors in 2003, he stayed retired until 2011 when he began a new job on the Rayburn Township Road Crew, where he worked until his death.


Butch loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed taking trips to watch Eagles or any other birds, taking trips with his children and grandchildren to zoo's, amusement parks or feeding the fish, coloring or doodling, cutting grass on his riding lawn mower, attending to the dog's, having a beer with his son, and joking around with family. He enjoyed listening to a wide genre of music, but he loved his Statler Brothers and Oak Ridge Boys the most.


He belonged to the Rayburn Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he was one of the first junior firefighters. After a small break he rejoined in 1975 and has been a member since. Snork was also a licensed CB Operator, "The Badger Den", operating under the handle "Barney Badger". 


He is survived by his wife of 63 years Sandra (Kissinger) Barnett of Kittanning; son Kevin Barnett of Kittanning; daughter Tracey (Kenny) Eckman of Kittanning; daughter Kimberly Barnett of Kittanning; 4 grandchildren Sean (Allie) Barnett of Ford City; Nicole (Matthew) Bauman of East Brady; Stefany (Christian) Meyer of Cadogan; Alexandra Eckman of Kittanning; 5 great-grandchildren Lucian and Sullivan of Ford City, Franklin and Philo of Cadogan, and Harper of East Brady; 2 loving pets and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Ralph "Bud" Barnett Jr and Arthur "Art" Barnett; 2 step-sisters Laura McElfresh and Mary Lou Stewart-Foster.


Friends will be received on Friday August 15, 2025 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning from 1:00 p.m. until the time of a funeral service at 5:00 P.M. with Baptist Pastor Bill Barnett his nephew officiating.
