Irene Jane (McAfoose) Bowser

Irene Jane (McAfoose) Bowser, age 99, of Worthington, PA passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023 surrounded by family at Quality Life Services Sugarcreek.  She was born on May 30, 1923 to Orrie and Nora (Crissman) McAfoose.  Irene was a woman with great faith in God and had been looking forward the last week to reuniting in Heaven with her husband, daughter, mom, dad, and all of her siblings and other loved ones that passed before her.  She loved to garden and was very proud of her beautiful flower gardens.  She was an avid reader and wonderful cook and baker, and loved large family gatherings.  Most of all she loved her family; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were blessed with unconditional love.  She particularly loved visits from and FaceTiming with 2 special great-grandsons, Ryker and Kayden Hohn. 

Irene was a member of Brush Valley Brethren Church in Adrian where she married Roy Bowser on December 23, 1944. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before Roy passed away. She is survived by her son, Robert Bowser and daughter, Bonnie (Dave) Stewart, all of Worthington; and son-in-law, Sam Montgomery, of Kittanning. Also surviving are grandchildren, Melanie Bowser (Ben Salsgiver), Corey (Courtney) Stewart, Cody Stewart, Amber, Tess Stewart, Emalee (Colton) Hohn, Clara Montgomery, Cheryl (John) Fauset, Robb Bowser, Randy (Tabitha) Bowser and Brenda (Doug) Gregory. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, who passed away July 4, 2013; her precious daughter, Louise Montgomery, who passed away January 27, 2022; and daughter-in-law, Sue Bowser, who passed away September 18, 2020. Also preceding her in death was her much loved siblings: Chester, Clarence, Raymond, Rose and Catherine and their spouses; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wilbur and Goldie Bowser; and all of the loving siblings and spouses of her husband. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Quality Life Services Sugarcreek for the wonderful care and love that she received the past 20 months. They went above and beyond to make SCR a place where she felt at home and she gained many bonus grandchildren among the nurses and caregivers. 

Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington, PA. Additional visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, at Furnace Run Chapel, 154 Montgomery Rd, Kittanning until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jimmy Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Brush Valley Brethren Church Cemetery in Adrian, Pa. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
