James Eugene Emminger of Brooksville, Florida passed away on May 6, 2022 following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. James (Jim) was born on January 22, 1951 in Kittanning, Pennsylvania where he grew up. Jim passed away peacefully, spending his last days surrounded by his devoted wife and children and grandchildren.
Jim loved his family deeply and will be forever remembered for his strength, character and unwavering courage throughout his life. He was a mariner who loved the sea and spent many years as a deep sea diver in the oilfields of Louisiana and as a Sea Tow Captain in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as an officer on a number of ships sailing throughout the United States and worldwide. When at home he loved spending time with his family, being “Pops” to his grandkids and great granddaughter, boating, hosting cook outs for family and friends, playing cards & Risk with his kids, and playing ball with his dog, Sassy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett (Pete) Bernard Emminger and Mary Mildred (Carley) Emminger Nieder, and his infant sister, Patricia Lynn Emminger. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Irwin Emminger (formerly of East Brady, PA), his 5 sons and his daughter, James Michael (Amy) Emminger, Robert Glenn Emminger, Eric Ross Emminger, Shaun Emmett Emminger, Jonathon David (Christine) Emminger, Lorainne Michele (Landry) Emminger-Arnold, all of Hernando and Citrus County, FL, his brother, David Emmett (Rose) Emminger, of Edinburg, PA, his sister, Susan J. Emminger, of Meadville, PA, 8 granddaughters, 4 grandsons and a great granddaughter, all of Homosassa, Weeki Wachee and Spring Hill, FL. He also preceded several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
Jim grew up in Kittanning, PA, where he lived and graduated from high school prior to enlisting in the US Navy in 1969. Following his honorable discharge, he lived and worked in Erie, PA, where he trained and worked for the Erie County Sheriff’s Dept. Search and Rescue Scuba Team. He later graduated from Professional Diving School in Houston, TX and became a Commercial Diver for Underwater Completion Team in New Iberia, LA. He also dived for Marlin Gutherie in the Kittanning area until he graduated from Triangle Tech in Pittsburgh, PA with his Associate’s degree in RHVAC. He then worked for Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Tampa, FL as Chief Maintenance Engineer. Jim became a small vessel sea captain, working for Sea Tow International Tampa Bay and spent his later years sailing on the Yorktown Cruise vessel and several large cargo ships prior to retirement. He opened Emminger Family Seafood Market (aka Trinity Seafood Market & Restaurant) in New Port Richey, FL in 2015.
Jim is deeply loved by his family and friends and will be forever remembered with the greatest admiration and missed more than words can express.
Private services were held. The Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning is assisting the family with the local arrangements.
