James Carl Long, 85, of Worthington, died the first part of January at his residence. He was born February 20, 1937 in Kittanning, Pa, the son of Myra A. and Alvin C. Long. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1955 and then went to Indiana State Teachers College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He used that degree to teach driver’s education and computer science at Redbank Valley High School in New Bethlehem for 44 years. Jim’s most important interests were wealth management, martial arts, and physical fitness. He enjoyed long walks and working out on exercise machines. He took his health very seriously. He was also known to travel to jazz festivals in Newport, Rhode Island and Reading, Pennsylvania. Jim was an active member on the Board of Trustees and served as Treasurer of the Worthington-West Franklin Community Library for at least 10 years. He was a medic in the army while stationed at Fort Hood. He is survived by three cousins: John Hoyt, of North Canton, OH, Linda Hoyt, of Green, OH and Jerry Hoyt, of Canton, OH. Jim was greatly valued by his family. He was a principled, honest, kind and fair man. He will be sincerely missed by those who knew him. Private arrangements were entrusted to the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington.
