James Angelo “Smerb” Kacprowski, 56, of Kittanning, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at his home. He was born July 21, 1962, in Kittanning, to the late John and Dolly Kacprowski and lived in the area all of his life. He was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. He formerly worked as a night shift manager at a local gas station. James enjoyed playing cards, watching football and westerns, listening to music, drawing, caving, and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a “happy pappy.”
Left behind to cherish his memory includes his longtime companion, Tammy Stephens, of Kittanning; son, Chase (Ashley) Stephens, of Sarver; grandchildren, Berkley, Ellery, and Finley Stephens, of Sarver; brothers, Joseph (Patricia) Kacprowski and Zip Kacprowski, all of Kittanning; sisters, Darlene (Terry) Savage and Mary (Brian) Hawkins, all of Kittanning; nephews, John and Josh Kacprowski, both of Kittanning; nieces and nephew, Lyndsey (Eric) Toy, of Cadogan, and Terra and Dylan Kacprowski, both of Kittanning; and niece and nephews, Christopher, Summer, and John Hawkins, all of Kittanning. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Catherine Kacprowski; and grandparents, Elmer and Marie Miller.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the visiting nurses, especially Julie. Many friends and family may not recognize James by his first name, as he often went by many nicknames, including Smerb, Jim, Mort, Mergetroid Smerbenowski, Uncle Bump, or Uncle Ah!
Friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at the Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning. Parting Prayers will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Victor Suansing Baguna officiating.
