Joanne (Johnson) Hetrick, 93, of Fairfield, OH, formerly of Kittanning, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Gateway Springs Health Service, Hamilton, Ohio. She was born January 14, 1933, in Kittanning, PA to the late Arthur J. and Agatha L. (Moore) Johnson.
Joanne was a graduate of Kittanning High School “Class of 1951” where she met and married her High School sweetheart, Boyd Hetrick. They married in 1951, lived in Kittanning, and later moved to Sugar Grove, PA for Boyd’s job. Joanne always had a heart for healthcare and serving others which led to her employment at the Kittanning and Butler Hospitals and multiple physicians’ offices in the Kittanning area over the years. She retired from JCPenney after many years of service. She enjoyed crafting, reading, shopping, crossword puzzles and during her time in Kittanning, she volunteered as an auxiliary member at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, where she served on several board positions over the years. Joanne was a member of West Glade Run Presbyterian Church and later Grace Presbyterian Church. Her biggest joy was spending time with her loved ones and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Joanne is survived by two sons, Steve Hetrick (Marjorie) of Renfrew and Kevin Hetrick (Margaret) of Kittanning; two daughters, Paula Mitchell of Akron, Ohio and Marcia Gay (Charles) of Fairfield, Ohio; Grandchildren, Monica Hetrick, Kara Thornberry (James), Sean Mitchell, Matthew Swanson, Michael Swanson, Joseph Swanson, Daniel Gay and Alex Gay; Great Grandchildren, Caleb Thornberry and Olivia Thornberry; Sister-in-laws, Sue Johnson, Anna (Hetrick) Gerano, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Boyd Hetrick; her brother, William (Bill) Johnson, and her brother and sister-in-law, A. James (Jim) and Ruby Johnson.
Friends will be received on Friday, March 27th 2026 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning from 11:00 am until the time of funeral service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Robert Hindman officiating. Interment is in Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Orphans of the Storm, P.O. Box 838, Kittanning, PA 16201.
