John Richard Olcus, 91, of Sugarcreek Township, passed away Tuesday July 28, 2026 at QLS-Sugarcreek. He was born July 31, 1934 in Kaylor, PA to the late Thomas M. and Helen (Mildren) Olcus.
John lived most of his life in Sugarcreek Township, he married Bonnie Lou Crissman on May 14, 1954, and devoted his life to caring for his family. John graduated from Karns City High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 during the Korean Conflict, spending most of his time in Germany.
He was a member of Trinity Church in Brady's Bend, where he formerly served on the Consistory. John was also a member of the VFW, Armstrong County Fireman's Association, a life member of the Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Kaylor Camp, and the Brady's Bend Historical Society. John was a former member of the Masonic Blue Lodge and the Coudersport Consistory.
He enjoyed watching the Pirates and Steelers. John retired from Penreco in 1991 due to his health.
John was preceded in death by his parents; son Ryan Olcus; brother Thomas G. Olcus; brother-in-law William Fennell.
John is survived by his wife of 72 years Bonnie Lou Olcus; sister Alice Fennell; sister-in-law Jean Olcus; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nephews.
At John's request there will be no visitation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in John's honor to the Trinity Church of Brady's Bend at 887 State Route 68, East Brady, PA or to the Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department.
