Joy Earl Obituary

Joy L. (Cousins) Earl, 89, of Kittanning and Hudson, MI, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at QLS Sugarcreek.  She was born October 12, 1936 in Mosgrove, Pa., the daughter of the late William L. and Grace (Slagle) Cousins.  Joy was a graduate of Allegheny Valley School of Nursing.  She worked as a Registered Nurse, caring and taking care of all people either in the hospital or at her last job prior to retirement, at Jackson State Prison.  She enjoyed nursing and it came easy to her as "Aunt Joy" was a very kind and loving soul.  She belonged to Hudson First Congregational Church in Hudson, MI.  If you ever met Joy Earl you would have enjoyed her happy laugh and beautiful smile.  She was known in later life to many that met her as "Aunt Joy".  She had many nieces and nephews that looked forward to spending time with her and hearing funny stories.  Joy lived in Hudson, MI with her husband that she adored and sons, Chris and Doug.   She moved back to Pennsylvania 2 years ago to be with family.  Joy enjoyed camping, baking and making delicious holiday meals.  She also enjoyed gardening, reading and playing cards at her weekly card club.  She was always up for an adventure and never refused a pontoon boat ride with her niece, Natalie Reefer, up the Allegheny River.

She leaves behind to forever cherish her memory her nieces: Penney Cousins, Natalie Reefer, Amy Lemmon, Sandra Reed, Lisa Cone, Stacey Clayton, LuAnn Carrillo and Shawnee Bush; nephews, Timothy Cousins, Michael John Cousins, Matthew Cousins and Daniel Cousins; and dear and special best friend, Ethel Zimmerman.  In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her husband, David R. Earl; sons, Christopher Earl and Douglas Earl; sister, Delphine R. Cousins Harmon; brothers, William L. Cousins Jr. and John L. Cousins; and special niece, Cindy Joy Harmon Gibson.

Friends will be received on Monday, Sept. 8, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, PA.  Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson, Michigan.
