Linda (Roofner) Smith

Linda (Roofner) Smith, 74, of West Kittanning passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 in UPMC Passavant Hospital. 

She was born on May 4, 1947 to Charles and Jean (Foster) Roofner in Kittanning, PA. 

Linda worked as an executive secretary for Mid-Penn Phone Company, now Windstream, after graduation from high school until she moved to Ohio where she received her Degree of Nursing at Kent State University in 1983 and worked at Akron City Hospital in Pediatrics and the Emergency Room. 

She attended Furnace Run Chapel in Kittanning. Her faith in her God was more important to her than anything else in her life. Linda was a great lover of animals and rescued many, loved them and found them good homes and some became her own. 

Since 1991 she was employed as a hospice nurse through VNA of Butler and other hospice facilities. Her love and compassion for people and her patients was extraordinary and worked at this profession for 28 years. 

Linda enjoyed her camp in the mountains at Sigel, boating, kayaking, fishing and enjoyed nature and all of god’s creatures. She loved to cook and bake, quilting and crocheting. One of her favorite hobbies was working with wood, home restoration and refinishing furniture. Linda was known for cooking meals and delivering them to shut-ins and members of her church who were ill or homebound. 

Linda is survived by her two step-sons’ Mitch (Becky) Smith of Pennsylvania and Mike (Trish) Smith of Las Vegas that she helped raise, her special cousins Tom, Romayne, Kalynn, JT, Jenny and Declan Foster, Gayle Lang, Gloria (John) Vargo, John (Diane) Bargerstock, Edward (Bari) Bargerstock; 3 nephews’ Ricky, Randy and Leonard Myers of Florida. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Sarah, sister Judy Meyers, nephew, Dan Meyers and Aunt, Virginia Bargerstock. 

At Linda’s request, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at Furnace Run Chapel, 154 Montgomery Rd., Kittanning, PA with Pastor Jimmy Edwards officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to either Furnace Run Chapel, Indiana Animal Shelter, or a hospice of your choice. The Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning is assisting the family with their funeral arrangements.
